Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

Ensuring your wishes are honoured when you are unable to speak up for yourself

Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

Many people think LPAs are only for later in life, but the truth is we can lose capacity at any time—through illness or an unexpected accident. Putting an LPA in place while you have capacity ensures that the people you trust most can make decisions on your behalf, with your best interests at heart.

Without these important documents, decisions may fall to authorities, which can create unnecessary stress for your loved ones.

There are different types of LPAs to suit your needs:

Health & Welfare

Covers decisions about your personal well-being—from everyday choices like diet and therapies to critical health matters such as medical treatment, medication, and life-sustaining care.

Property & Financial Affairs

Includes managing bills, bank accounts, pensions, taxes, and property.

Business LPA

If you’re a business owner, director, or shareholder, this ensures someone you trust can handle essential responsibilities—such as accessing business accounts, dealing with HMRC, pension providers, suppliers, and customers.

Putting these measures in place now offers peace of mind for you and reassurance for those who care about you.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

It takes around 8 to 10 weeks to register an LPA with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).

The Office of the Public Guardian charges £92 to register an LPA. So, if you wish to register both Health & Welfare and Property & Financial Affairs LPAs, the cost is £184 in total. This is in addition to our processing fees.

There is a reduction in OPG fees if you earn less than £12,000 per year.
